Extreme Camping

Stayed over at Senpai’s sis’s condo (it’s complicated) over the weekend. She hooked up her laptop to the huge plasma TV! IT WAS F*AWESOME.

Here’s what we chionged:
Handsome Suit - Loved the pun ブスーツ! Super cute and colorful.
Door to Door - Based on a true story of Bill Porter. Throughout the film I kept thinking of how hard it was for him to twitch his face like that.
Queen of Pirates concert DVD - Truth be told I wouldn’t have watched it but what to do, this is Senpai we’re talking about XDDD TURNED OUT TO BE A GREAT CONCERT LOVELY LIGHTING AND EXTRAVAGANT DISPLAY OF PYROTECHNICS AND PROPS. Also, kept screaming (in horror) at Kamenashi’s unseemly display of erotica, among others :P
Smile episode 01 - Eh first episode was full of super random cuts and confusing and tried to tackle too many topics, but from the previews it looks like episode 02 will be much better. However this is the last I’ll hear of it.
Slam Dunk episode 01 - I think there’s no need to introduce this XD Way to start Sunday morning :DDD
One Piece episodes 218-257 – CHIONGSTER!!!!! And this, the first time I actually start getting serious about this anime, I start from the middle. Win.

Here’s what we ate:

Packed lunch from home – porridge and beans and some fish cake.

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT JACK & JILL WOULD COME UP WITH UNAGI CHIPS!?!?! Also, we shared Pringles and 4 donuts from Jco.

Dinner was a magnificent home-delivery takeout feast of Roti John, Murtabak, 10 Satays, 1 tupperware of beansprouts… I forgot from where. Senpai can testify that I could not move after eating.

Breakfast the next day was Senpai being domestic! Maggi Me with fried egg and others. Nom!

AND THEN FOR A MIDDAY SNACK SHE FRIED FRENCH TOAST A:DFlsmklgjdengkl!!!!

We ordered takeout from Sakae Suchi for dinner. They gave us 6 spoons. It was so lol because seriously the two of us were eating six people’s share???

Have been chionging One Piece from where we left off to the end of the arc (episode 316). Am now starting from the beginning and so far am at episode 10. In the meantime I painted my nails and made earrings. How’s that for productivity while not stepping one foot out of the house for the past two days, hah!

Okay I have no life.

Who Watched The Watchmen?

So I watched Watchmen last night. This is where I sigh theatrically and wave my imaginary cigarette dismally in the air and go, “Where do I begin?”

Where indeed. I loved parts of the movie, and then hated some. Some parts also I found the direction or tension slightly lacking. But let’s start with the characters.

The Grand Cathay

I thought I walked into a play instead of the theatre for Marley & Me with Ade today.

The place is beautiful! So are the dogs.

Pity about the rowdy group of school kids who thought they were still in Macdonalds.

Pa was damn funny in the car today:

Example A: “Sometimes I feel so lazy… I just feel so lazy,” when I asked him to cook for tomorrow’s dinner.

Example B: He randomly sang a song phrase on 98.7fm, and asked me if he was using his real voice. I told him to sing again, which he did.

After laughing like batshit, I told him he sounded like he was dying.

That particular song was pretty high-pitched XDD

Ip Man

Finally I got to watch the much anticipated Ip Man! I went there expecting great martial arts and they delivered, in the calm, poetic manner very unlike the usual fare of hot-headed martial exchange.

AND IT WAS DONNIE YEN FOR GOODNESS SAKE, YOU SHOULD BE EXPECTING GREAT MOVES FROM THE GUY.

The one thing I didn’t expect was to cry so many times during the movie. NOBODY IN THE THEATRE SEEMED TO BURST INTO TEARS AS I DID LA. I was so embarrassed that I tried to keep wiping the stream of tears off my face and sniffling to a minimum :(

I guess the recent barrage of rekindling memories of what we learnt; Japanese occupation during World War II in Singapore, hit a sore spot. The only reason why Pa’s father got away with minor torturing was because he knew someone who knew one of the higher-ups in the Japanese army and the guy halted it. My existence could have ended there, IT IS A HORRIFYING THOUGHT.

And then I remembered what my primary school social studies teacher said about the various methods used for torture. Plus the video where the elder citizens in a documentary LCH screened on Monday where he recalled some of the methods… Well let’s just say that the Japanese didn’t just get inventive overnight. But that’s all over and done with. Please try to have world peace everyone.

Most of the characters in Ip Man were believable. Especially liked the characterisation of the two Japanese generals. Satou is a mean coward who hides behind his gun, and Miura is an arrogant person who doesn’t do his job as a general very well. I mean, aren’t you supposed to be securing your invaded land instead of opening up a dojo?!? (WHERE DID ALL THOSE KARATE PUPILS COME FROM? I refuse to believe they are part of the army since they spend all their time in the dojo.) Compared to the active Satou, Miura seems like a nice, stoic guy, but it was nice peeling another layer as the story moved on to find that he wasn’t being nice, but just being full of himself. Oh and the actor for Miura is damn drool-worthy XDDD

One scene especially was stuck in my head. It was an exchange of Satou and Miura in a dimly-lit corridoor. THE LIGHTING WAS DAMN NICE. DAMN NICE. DAMN NICE. DAMN NICE. And that beat of light at the last part? GENIUS.

Some parts I thought could have been elaborated a little more. Like the hot-blooded Northerner who turned to robbing. He had so much potential to develop as a character, but it was as if near the end there wasn’t enough time and he got cast-off as a calafare after too much screen-time.

Oh and it would have been awesome if during the credits they had screened some videos of the real Ip Man. Just an idea XD

I can’t believe Ade wouldn’t watch it with me. ADE YOU MUST WATCH! GOT CUTE GUY AND NICE FLOWERS AND HEROICS!

The Dark Knight

Caught The Dark Knight with Ruru and Shasha today!

I think the sound was amazing. That balloon squeal thing (used at least twice for the climaxes) was actually quite good at doing its job sia.

One of the few things that bug me is how come the eyeball is still there. Shouldn’t it have gone up in flames? And is security at that hospital really that lax (especially since a big shot is there)? And how come no one made Harvey Dent a priority when they had to evacuate?

Cosfest 2008 Day 1

The last time I went to Cosfest was about 2 or 3 years back. Seems like it’s gotten a lot more crowded since then. And a lot more foreign since I’ve not been keeping up with fad!anime.

And I made Ade bring Skinny because I was afraid of what I would become should Fatty or Super Fatty tag along. As was the case of a huge guy in blue pushing behind me when I was trying to take a picture (of perhaps the Bleach group) and resulting in the first two shots being very shaky, until I let him stand in front of me. Hello having a P&S doesn’t mean I’m not entitled to taking pictures ley :(

Not having either of the Fatties around also made me want to take less pictures, which was good. Because I’m the kind to get tired of posed shots and will try to get voyeuristic (not in the perverse sense) ones and that is not good because cosplayers don’t like that. And I’ve been beating myself up ever since EOY last year from trauma. Most of it probably self-induced guilt la.

Senpai for Cash today. Sang a lot of English pop yay!

(Later at night when I boasted to Ti how I sang my favourite Nickelback songs, he did the >_> face and said those songs are normally not to be sung in KTV. I differ! Shouting songs are what make me high, while ultra high notes make Senpai high)

And then we rushed off to catch the 4.40 pm show Kung Fu Panda.
