Finally Holiday

Actually it’s the third day of my month-long holiday, but I was nursing a cold over the weekend, in addition to being dragged all over town to celebrate freedom :P

Anyway, recap of submission week:

Monday:
Battled murder urges fainting spells from the cramps of female-hood and rushed throughout school to:
(a)
Collect mounting boards from QRen and watch a brief demo on how to mount our photos from Gorilla.
(b)
Chase Renald out of his computer station (lol sorry man) for 5 minutes to print my submission papers for Charcoal’s Journal, Sunshine’s FYP report and Redball’s Website report (had clean forgotten about checking Blackboard and realised too late that I had to write a report in the wee hours of the morning omg)
(c) submit said reports,
(d) take quick snaps of JK’s painting exhibition
(e) go back to the car where Mum was waiting and keel over in pain for the rest of the day.

Also, I has portfolio website (thanks to Redball lol). Should update it more in the future but I am lazy ass so we shall see.

Thursday:
Completed Derwin’s 200 MCQ paper in one hour instead of the allocated two. I guess that was the adrenaline doing the speed-reading for me. But got damn pissed when I double-checked my paper and found a transference error on the second question. I blame Derwin, because I have never made transference errors before, and this time was because the options on the question paper were numerals (1, 2, 3, 4), while the options on the OAS sheet were alphabets (a, b, c, d, e). WTF MAN, WAS THIS A TRICK TEST? Were we supposed to hand in a blank OAS sheet and state that the answers were not found on the answer sheet? I wasted precious time reading the instructions on the first page thrice, after discovering the incongruity of the options, hoping to discover some sort of code or something, but there was none. Wah lau eh.

Friday:
The last of my submissions, after Charcoal postponed this session due to an emergency. I came to school at 9am, only to discover two of my classmates milling around to tell me that no, the class started only at 9.30am. I AM A FOOL. Anyway, I don’t really remember much of my presentation because I was operating on !Panic!, but there were some memorable moments.

Like when Gorilla presented his series on dying trades and said about the government staff which patrolled the vendors and, “make sure that the dying trades die”.

And the instance when I was putting up my ten final prints after the break and got help from my classmates, and then a lot of them started crowding round and commenting on the series, and I got people coming up to say that they’d always liked the photos that I did, and the rest of them telling me to change my major to Photography and etc (to which I was like, No! I’m going to graduate liao! lol), and Charcoal sat on the opposite side of the table asking if I could minor, to which I smart-alecked and said, only in Entrepreneurship OTL

And then during my presentation, Charcoal said that he thought of me that morning while drinking coffee, and said that he wondered what I’d do after I graduate, and could see me illustrating for a job, like for Campell’s soup (wth?!?! totally random loll). He also said that my series reminded him of children’s story books, to which I exclaimed that yes! I collected children’s books (omg I never noticed the connection sia!). And that my spirit seems more like an artist, in that he could not see me doing commercial work. And somewhere along he asked again what I was going to do after graduation, to which I said that I would have to get a job because Pa says so to support him and because he was tired of paying for my tuition fees lolol and I added that I would be happy living off my parents though :PP

Argh, recapping of Friday is very jumbled, but it was one of the best classes that I had, including that it’s the last photography class I’ll ever have in this university T^T

I think that’s it. I really am going to have to invest in a couple of good camera lenses for the SLR and dSLR now instead of borrowing from the school ^^;

Apocalyptic Nightmares

Today I had a fitful sleep due to the taking over of the world. By zombies.

I didn’t actually see any zombies in my dreams though, was more concerned about the lack of people, desolated buildings, and climbing through impossible windows to escape unnoticed. It was the silent fear that made the whole thing horrible.

And the dreams were tenacious in holding onto the same storyline. I woke up at 9am feeling disconcerted, promptly went back to sleep, dreamed another sequence of me and a small group escaping, woke up, and repeat the whole thing for a few more times until 12pm when I couldn’t take it anymore and felt enough energy to rise from the apparatus that made those zombies materialize.

The last installment of the zombie nightmare had me, Mum and Ti escaping as a group. All the buildings were built like an exaggerated version of the school (three curved slopes with grass roofs and sprinklers.) We climbed through the inside of the building, climbed over railings, past people having tea al fresco, and it started to pour. Those people went into the building, but we decided to stay out because we had to escape the area. The slopes were too steep and I had the brilliant idea of us sitting on the ground and pushing each other down the watery slope. We had fun, but it was the sort of fun with the knowledge of doom underlying it. Midway I remembered about Pa and wondered if he was alright, and then decided that he would hold up on his own.

Last week’s dream was more of a comedy than a nightmare, but it felt pretty bad while I was inside it. I was in some class outing, and we walked through five-foot ways with pale white arches. We eventually met Charcoal inside some quaint white shop, and he told us that the Eiffel tower was going to be knocked down and replaced with a new structure. I was appalled to hear of such a news, but more than horrified when I saw the plans of the structure they were going to replace it with.

You know those cartoon laser guns with tips that consist of one long pole tapers at the end, and rings surrounding the pole? Something like that. I tried looking for the structure online, but somehow could not find the keywords that would produce the image of likeness. Actually I think that would be pretty kickass la, but in the dream I was like, WTF are they thinking, it’s hideous! lol

Btw I just did a brief search on the meaning of dreams and zombies, and got this:

Dreaming that a zombie is after you can mean you feel or fear that someone is threatening you in real life—emotionally, mentally, or physically—or it could just be that you’re having a Toxic Dream.

Okay the toxic dream explanation is believable enough. I’ve been keeping weird hours and sleeping only at dawn recently :S

Two more days and can relax!!! Haiz.

Crazy Pixels

I’m going crazy spending the day working on Redball’s web… and yet so far I’ve not touched a single strand of HTML code.

Oh Photoshopping headers, how I loathe and love thee. Am procrastinating on the last header because the image doesn’t seem to fit and I. don’t. want. to. find. another.

But it’s good for me too because I’m ultimately using the website for myself la. Haiz. Mangaaaaaaaa~~~~~

Yesterday I spent the whole day in the photolab, following the final critique in JK’s painting class. We made noise pollution by hammering dratted nails into the mobile walls. Ear pain. Also, was too arsed to take a proper photo, so will do that only this Friday when I go back to school, and then will report in a post when I’m more free.

Meanwhile, it’s rotting at home for these two days to try to finish Redball’s website, Sunshine’s FYP report and Charcoal’s journal, in that order. I have my foreseeable (no)life worked out as compared to some people :P

Today over dinner, Aunty Serene casually remarked that Ti scored a 100 out of 100 in one of his three test papers (the ones before the exams). The other two were pretty high scores as well, and though I can’t remember the figures it was something like 7/10 and 74/76?? I dunno, was too shocked after hearing about the 100/100 one.

WTF sia!?!??! I don’t know what subject that was in, but I think he’s mad.

Is that even humanly possible?

The highest I ever came close to a perfect score was a 96 or 98 in English. And that was in primary school. Since then I’ve been quite proud to be what others would call loser-ish. HAHAHAHA! XDD

Speaking of turned characters, I bought Macdonald’s for dinner last night in school. Toon was in front of me.

He was buying dinner for his gf! WAH SO GENTLEMAN! Also he commented that he was going to graduate at the same time as me, and asked what I wanted to do in the future, had I found a job, or was I looking for prospective employers and so on.

And I was like, noooo don’t ask me complicated questions! To which he seemed a bit perplexed at my laissez-faire response.

Anyway, the end of the story is that Toon seems to be a changed man! Hahahaha Ade and Puey this is fodder for grilling at the next class outing! Btw I also met Big Ben a couple of days ago (he was unshaven, quite shocking) and told him to organise one already :D

Positively Gushing

I am gushing over my processed 35mm slide film. Get the pun in the title? Geddit? Geddit?

(Slide film is a.k.a positive film… as opposed to the normal negatives. I know people ike Ade would definitely not get it :P)

I’ve actually had a go at shooting 120mm positive film before, just that it was for experimental photo class and it always got cross-processed, so this really is the first time I’ve seen an E6-processed  slide in its full glory.

WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING OUT ON ALL THESE TIME MAN!

I’m now a convert! Am gonna shoot slides until I go broke! Lolololol XDDD

Seriously though, one roll of 35mm costs three times as much as a normal roll of color negs… Now you know what to get me for next year’s birthday yea? XD

No wait, by the time my birthday rolls over I’d have graduated and won’t have access to the school’s scanners anymore. Nooooo orz

Here be the requisite submission deadline list for this semester:

17 Nov – JK’s final hugeass self-portrait and all other oil paintings.
23 Nov – Redball’s portfolio website.
24 Nov – Sunshine’s 1 page FYP report.
24 Nov – Charcoal’s final photographs of doom, and journal. (Kind people, please be so kind as to donate printing credits T^T)
26 Nov – Derwin’s 200 MCQ examination.

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that I’d be done with my projects way before the deadlines, because it actually looks like I’d have a chance at doing so this semester ^^;

It’s just that Charcoal’s projects haven’t been started yet and a lot of things can go wrong with trying to print with school’s printers…

Sometimes I Feel Clever.

Writing the museum catalog right now for the final assignment due tomorrow… I’d love to say that I’m making good progress, but good progress by my definition means that I should be done by 5pm, and I have another hour to complete writing the other half of my catalog. 5pm is just an ambitious gauge though, and I’d be satisfied if I were to be finished with this, including designing the building of my make-belief museum by nightfall.

Because after that I have to chiong out two weeks worth of FYP. This semester, I have been prioritizing other subjects over my FYP. It is disastrous :(

But anyway, I had a sudden surge of smugness because I managed to replace ‘show the progress of‘ with just one word, ‘document‘. So now the sentence says, ‘The photographs document one woman’s quest for the ideal beauty… etc

Hoozah! Goodbye, extra space-wastage of 12 characters!

And thank you Craft of Writing XDDD

This week is the last week of lessons. It’s going to be downhill from now on till the end of November, what with submission deadlines and exams. So I guess I will be updating even less frequently than before, unless I’m weeping my heart out from homework!exhaustion.

Jia you!!!!!!!!

Marriage & Photos

This week, I have been busy alternating between chiong-ing schoolwork and battling numerous colds. I blame the ending semester and increasingly wet weather for their respective repercussions.

Tuesday, I slept for one hour putting together a super rough website for Charcoal’s assignment – to show our photographic images on the screen. I was the second person to present after he looked around the room for victims, and he said, “Ren,” pointing to me. And I was like, pointing in front of me to the other ‘Ren’ in hopes that he would redirect his attention to QRen. Unfortunately he indicated the female Ren and so up I went, a bundle of nerves and all.

(Story of the two Rens – This class I am in comprises of mostly second year Photography majors. In the beginning, I would always turn my head around to respond to one of the guys calling out my name, until I realised that they were actually calling for their classmate. Now it so happens that we both seem to stay back to do Charcoal’s homework on Fridays, so one day I happened to sit next to this other Ren guy and I asked him for his name, to which he said, “You can call me Ren.” To which I replied, “No, cannot, because I’m also Ren.” Nowadays we both excitedly call each other Ren when we see each other XDD–

It’s also interesting because his whole generation for the males are named something-Ren, while mine is Ren-something for both males and females. I laughed out loud when he said one of his relative’s name which was Guo Ren, because it sounded a lot like 国人 (citizen)… am so sorry ^^;)

Anyway, This is the super drafty website, presented through a thumbdrive.

Because Shasha wanted to see it, and I’m too ashamed to upload this or even call it a site because of all those ‘ ’s XDD

After my presentation, Charcoal asked what I planned to do in the future, to which I replied, “Continue living“, as opposed to, well, being careless and dying. And I really have no light or ambition pulling me in any direction after graduation :( Then he tried to push the question further and asked if I planned to get married.

My immediate reaction was wtf!??! What sort of question was that?!?! No I don’t intend to get married atm but you never know, and did he mean to imply that marriage would lead me to be a housewife, thus depriving me of further explorations in my works? Or did he mean to marry one of his sons to me LOLOLOLOLLL

What actually came out of my mouth after that tumultuous brain activity was simply a desperate cry, “Why are you asking me that?!?” and after that I couldn’t remember much about the presentation anymore XDDDD

But I really love Charcoal and his inane questions to which I can never find answers to. He is a nice old man <3

Anyway, most of these photos will be uploaded on a website by the end of this semester because it just so happens that I’m taking Redball’s class (website development) and making a portfolio site is my final project. So keep a lookout :D

Erm. I spent too long writing this post when I should be continuing with my website :(

Happy Halloween 2009

Today, I wore safari-inspired zebra prints with ‘khaki green’.

(Sorry, this will probably be the first and last time I publicly make a jab at Ris Low’s infamous video hahahahahaha XDD)

Happy H!!

Btw Super Fatty has passed the 10k mark. Now my pictures start at 0001. A’;kdl;sjkflns sia!!!!
