Cosfest 2008 Day 1

The last time I went to Cosfest was about 2 or 3 years back. Seems like it’s gotten a lot more crowded since then. And a lot more foreign since I’ve not been keeping up with fad!anime.

And I made Ade bring Skinny because I was afraid of what I would become should Fatty or Super Fatty tag along. As was the case of a huge guy in blue pushing behind me when I was trying to take a picture (of perhaps the Bleach group) and resulting in the first two shots being very shaky, until I let him stand in front of me. Hello having a P&S doesn’t mean I’m not entitled to taking pictures ley :(

Not having either of the Fatties around also made me want to take less pictures, which was good. Because I’m the kind to get tired of posed shots and will try to get voyeuristic (not in the perverse sense) ones and that is not good because cosplayers don’t like that. And I’ve been beating myself up ever since EOY last year from trauma. Most of it probably self-induced guilt la.

Anyway, pictures!

萌.
(Cardcaptor Sakura, judging from the staff. But I may be wrong.)

Ade and I both thought she was damn zai.
(D. Gray Man, I need to get my ass down to reading/watching it.)

Love the mishmash!

Don’t know why but this was my favourite cosplayer.

Meow.

Love their pose.
(Bleach, though I halted the series right after the first two arrancars appeared so I have no idea who these are…)

Ade was enamored by this guy. Ooh tight pants!

THAT UMBREY IS THE WANT! And I think she looks really cool!

We left soon after, and started chasing this particular feline at the exit. There were 2 other companions, but they were being reclusive and boring. Actually, so was this, but we were being persistent.

Ade wanted to try this food place at Simei’s East Point. It’s called 18 Chefs. Apparently opened by an ex-dangerous man or something. Anyway, the shop is distinctively different! The whole area was covered in graffiti scrawlings. Lovely.

The ordering was done via filling in a chit which you could find hanging (together with the menus) at the back of the chair. I thought it was a really neat concept. And it was practical too – a rare instance.

Garlicky Mussels with fries. It’s a breakfast side dish which we had for dinner. The garlic was really strong. We had garlic breath after that.

Cheese baked rice with Mushroom and Creamy Mango sauce.
Was a bit hesitant about the mango sauce but IT WAS GOOD. Not overpowering like we thought it’d have been.
Ade and I both got student meals. Which cost $10 after GST (no service charge!). The meals came with this, an ice lemon tea drink and a scoop of ice cream.

Ade had a Pasta (Spaghetti) with Chicken and Black Pepper sauce. And she topped up a dollar for the cheese baked top.
I don’t really fancy black pepper nor spaghetti much though.

There was this cute malay boy helping around. (with my eavesdropping skills I learnt that he was 12 years old). Anyway he suddenly came to our table and said, “How do you find the food Ma’am?” And I was so startled from my food that the only response I could give was a stunned and despaired, “Ma’am…..?” while Ade saved the day by saying it was alright. The boy is so cute la.

And the bald (LUV!) person whom Ade pointed out was the person who opened the place was there looked really scary but he smiled when I happened to look around grinning (was being really happy probably due to lack of sleep). So he probably wasn’t that scary after all.

The tudung lady was really sweet!!!! I think the boy was her family?

Oh and when I requested for Ade’s scoop of ice cream to be added to mine because she wasn’t going to be eating it, the waiter gave this really amusing face which cracked me up. It was really cold chocolate chip ice cream.

AND THE BEST THING IS THAT IT’S HALAL!!!!!! Virtually all the food places located along that area seemed to be Halal.

After that we went down to The Cathay to try to catch Bad Habits, which we thought would be a Picturehouse screening. Unfortunately we didn’t do our homework because it was an impromptu decision and we ended up catching Driving Lessons, which quite frankly, was wtf huh? $10 gone.

And then I took a straight bus home and drew the middle-aged man napping beside me while pretending to be oblivious of his occassional glances of my sketch of him in progress.
